For players switching between digital downloads and physical game libraries without buying a second console. This page covers the PS5 disc drive options.
Evan's spec pass. The PS5 disc drive lets you play physical discs on a digital-only console. It connects to the side of the PS5 and requires a USB cable for power.
The desk job here is simple: you have a digital PS5 and a shelf of physical games, and you want to play both without buying a second console. The PS5 disc drive adapter is the bridge that lets you swap between your download library and your disc collection on the same machine.
Before you open the listing, check the product photo to confirm the drive is the official Sony unit and that the USB power cable is included. You are looking for the specific model that attaches to the side of the digital PS5, not a generic external drive.

How Evan reads a spec sheet hiding in a title
If the title will not say USB 3, watts, or port count, it does not make my short list.
- Connector and speed are visible in the Amazon title.
- Photo is from that listing.
- No mystery ‘universal’ hub with no port list.
- Rating is public when Amazon shows one.
Open the listing and count ports before you buy. I do not run a silicon lab here.
01 4Pcs for PS5 Slim Stand Console Bracket Holder Flat Base…
| Kind | PS5 disc drive |
| Stars | 4.6 |
| Price | $9.99 |
| Page | Open the Amazon listing |
This four-piece bracket set is explicitly labeled for the PS5 Slim Disc Edition, which is critical if you are moving from a digital-only setup to a physical library. The title specifies a flat base horizontal stand, meaning you are buying a footprint change rather than just a vertical orientation swap.
Check the photo for the gap between the stand's base and the console's bottom vents. If the stand is too tall or the base is too narrow, it can block the airflow required for the disc drive's mechanical operation, which runs hotter than a digital model.

02 ElecGear PS5 NVMe SSD Heatsink, EL-P5C Heat Pipe + Solid Aluminum…
| Kind | PS5 disc drive |
| Stars | 4.8 |
| Price | $24.98 |
| Page | Open the Amazon listing |
The title identifies this as a heat pipe and solid aluminum cooler for the PlayStation 5 internal PCIe M.2 NVMe 4.0 Gen4 memory. It is a thermal component, not a storage device, so it does not add capacity but manages the heat generated by high-speed drives.
Look at the photo to see if the heat pipe is exposed or covered by a shroud. An exposed pipe is efficient for airflow, but if the design is bulky, it may interfere with the PS5's internal fan housing, which is a common failure point for third-party heatsinks.

03 1 Set Mounting Solid State Disk SSD Screw Nut for PS5 Console SSD…
| Kind | PS5 disc drive |
| Stars | 5.0 |
| Price | $8.99 |
| Page | Open the Amazon listing |
This listing is for a set of mounting solid state disk SSD screw nuts for the PS5 console SSD motherboard. It is a replacement hardware kit, not a storage expansion, so it serves users who have stripped screws or are swapping out a drive.
In the product photo, verify the thread length and head size. If the screws are too long, they will protrude into the drive's PCB; if they are too short, the drive will not be secured against vibration, which can cause read errors during long gaming sessions.

04 WD_BLACK 1TB SN850P NVMe M.2 SSD Officially Licensed Storage…
| Kind | PS5 disc drive |
| Stars | 4.8 |
| Price | $406.98 |
| Page | Open the Amazon listing |
The title specifies this is a 1TB SN850P NVMe M.2 SSD officially licensed for PS5 consoles with a speed of up to 7,300MB/s. It includes a heatsink, which is mandatory for PS5 compatibility as the console requires active cooling for internal expansion.
Examine the photo to confirm the heatsink is a single-piece aluminum block. If the heatsink is a separate plate that requires thermal paste application, you are adding a point of failure; a pre-applied, single-piece design is more reliable for non-technical users.

05 Western Digital 1TB SN850 NVMe SSD for PS5 Consoles Solid State…
| Kind | PS5 disc drive |

| Page | Open the Amazon listing |
This is a Western Digital 1TB SN850 NVMe SSD for PS5 consoles, featuring Gen4 PCIe and M.2 2280 form factor with speeds up to 7,000 MB/s. It is a standard internal drive that requires a heatsink to meet PS5 thermal requirements.
Check the photo to see if the heatsink is integrated or a separate accessory. If it is a separate piece, ensure the thermal interface material is visible or included; a bare drive without a proper thermal solution will throttle immediately in a PS5, negating the speed advantage.
06 PS5 Slim Console Stand, Horizontal Placement Bracket Holder…
| Kind | PS5 disc drive |
| Stars | 4.8 |
| Price | $8.99 |
| Page | Open the Amazon listing |
The title describes this as a PS5 Slim Console Stand for horizontal placement, compatible with the PS5 Slim Disc Edition-A. It includes cooling feet and anti-slip features, indicating it is designed to manage the specific dimensions and weight of the newer, slimmer chassis.
Look at the photo to see how the stand attaches to the console's base. If it uses a clip-on mechanism, check for any visible stress points; if it uses a screw-in method, ensure the screws are included, as missing hardware is a common reason these stands fail to hold the console securely.

07 Toshiba Canvio Gaming 1TB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0…
| Kind | PS5 disc drive |
| Stars | 4.7 |
| Price | $115.96 |
| Page | Open the Amazon listing |
This is a Toshiba Canvio Gaming 1TB portable external hard drive with USB 3.0 connectivity, compatible with PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Mac. It is a mechanical drive, not an SSD, so it is suitable for storing older games or media, not for fast-loading PS5 titles.
In the photo, verify the USB cable is included and check the connector type. If the drive uses a proprietary connector or a short cable, it may not reach the PS5's front ports, forcing you to use the rear ports which can be less accessible for frequent swapping.

08 fanxiang 500GB NVMe Gaming SSD for PS5 with Heatsink, Up to…
| Kind | PS5 disc drive |
| Stars | 4.7 |
| Price | $119.99 |
| Page | Open the Amazon listing |
The title lists this as a fanxiang 500GB NVMe Gaming SSD for PS5 with a heatsink, offering up to 6300MB/s speeds. It is a PCIe Gen 4 SSD designed for internal expansion, but the 500GB capacity is on the lower end for a modern game library.
Check the photo to see the heatsink's coverage area. If the heatsink only covers the NAND chips and not the controller, the drive may still throttle under sustained load, which is a common issue with budget SSDs in high-performance consoles.
