Marcus on abuse. It stops ash from dropping onto food and makes cleaning the firebox significantly easier. The basket holds charcoal in place for more even heat.

After years of testing grills, I know that ash falling through the grate is a common complaint that spoils food and makes cleanup a nightmare. This kettle grill charcoal basket solves that by keeping the coals contained.

Look at the product photo to see the basket's structure and how it sits within the kettle grill. Note the design that prevents ash from falling through while allowing heat to circulate.

Smoke and Sizzle

The Smoke and Sizzle listing specifies a stainless steel construction designed for Weber Kettle 22-inch models, including Summit and Performer lines. This material choice matters when you are dealing with the heat retention of a full kettle, as the metal needs to withstand direct flame contact without warping the drip tray beneath it.

In the product photo, check the rim thickness where the basket meets the grate. You want to see a solid, rolled edge that sits flush against the grates to prevent ash from slipping through the gaps and falling onto your food. The visual should confirm the basket is deep enough to hold a full load of briquettes without spilling over the sides.

Ceramic Charcoal Basket Grill Baskets, Charcoal Ash Basket Pizza…

This listing highlights a ceramic charcoal basket kit compatible with Weber 22-inch kettles, One-Touch, and Master Touch series. The ceramic material is distinct from the standard steel options, suggesting a different heat distribution profile that may help with the two-zone cooking setup mentioned in the title.

Look at the photo to verify the basket's base is solid and not perforated. If the bottom is open, ash will still fall through to the firebox, defeating the purpose of keeping the area clean. The image should show a contained vessel that holds the charcoal above the ash catcher, ensuring the firebox remains accessible for cleaning without burning your hands.

SnS Grills Slow ’N Sear Charcoal Basket Insert for 18” Weber Kettles

The SnS Grills Slow 'N Sear insert is explicitly sized for 18-inch Weber Kettles, featuring a heavy-duty stainless steel build. This specific diameter is crucial because a basket that is too large will not fit the smaller grate, while one that is too small will leave gaps that allow ash to escape.

In the listing image, focus on the wire gauge of the stainless steel mesh. Thin wires can bow under the weight of a full load of charcoal, creating a gap at the bottom where ash falls through. The photo should depict a rigid, flat-bottomed tray that maintains its shape under pressure, ensuring the ash stays contained within the basket.

Slow 'N Sear® Deluxe Charcoal Basket Insert for 22" Weber Kettle…

This Slow 'N Sear Deluxe insert is designed for 22-inch Weber Kettle Grills and is described as a patented stainless steel two-zone cooking accessory. The 'Deluxe' designation in the title suggests additional features or a more robust construction compared to standard baskets, aimed at serious smokers and grillers.

Check the photo for the presence of a removable ash catcher or a solid base. The visual should confirm that the basket sits securely on the grate without wobbling. A stable fit is essential to prevent ash from being kicked out by the airflow, which can happen if the basket is not seated correctly on the kettle's grate.

Stainless Steel Charcoal Basket- BBQ Grilling Accessories for…

This listing describes a stainless steel charcoal basket for 22-inch kettles, marketed as a heavy-duty Char-Basket for briquettes and wood chips. The emphasis on 'heavy duty' in the title implies a thicker gauge of steel, which is important for withstanding the thermal shock of a hot fire.

In the product photo, look for the handle design. A sturdy, integrated handle is necessary for lifting the basket out of the firebox to clean it. If the handles are thin wire loops, they may not provide enough leverage to lift a full basket of ash and charcoal safely. The image should show a robust grip that allows you to remove the basket without touching the hot metal.

Charcoal Basket Stainless Steel for Weber Char-Basket Charcoal…

The listing specifies a stainless steel charcoal basket compatible with Weber 22-inch grilling accessories, positioning it as a Char-Basket holder. This compatibility note is key, as it ensures the basket will fit the specific grate dimensions of the Weber kettle, preventing ash from falling through the gaps.

Look at the photo to see if the basket has a solid bottom or a mesh base. A solid bottom is preferable for preventing ash from falling through, while a mesh base may allow for better airflow but requires more frequent cleaning. The image should clearly show the basket's depth and how it interacts with the grate, ensuring it sits low enough to contain the ash but high enough to keep the firebox clean.

Skyflame BBQ Stainless Steel Charcoal Basket Compatible with Weber…

The Skyflame BBQ stainless steel charcoal basket is listed as compatible with Weber Kettles, though the specific size is not detailed in the title. This generic compatibility suggests it may fit multiple Weber models, but you must verify the diameter to ensure it fits your specific kettle.

In the product photo, check the basket's width relative to the grate. If the basket is too narrow, ash will fall through the gaps on either side. The image should show a basket that spans the full width of the grate, creating a barrier that prevents ash from reaching the firebox and making cleaning significantly easier.

Originals Charcoal Basket Stainless Steel Char Holder, Compatible…

This Originals charcoal basket is described as a stainless steel char holder compatible with Weber grilling accessories, specifically for contoured carbon briquettes. The mention of 'contoured' briquettes suggests the basket is designed to hold a specific shape of charcoal, which may affect how the ash settles.

Look at the photo to verify the basket's base is flat and stable. A contoured base may not sit flush on the grate, creating gaps where ash can fall through. The image should show a flat-bottomed basket that sits securely on the grate, ensuring that the ash is contained within the basket and does not fall into the firebox.

SnS Grills Slow ‘N Sear Charcoal Basket Insert for Weber 22”…

The SnS Grills Slow 'N Sear charcoal basket insert is designed for the Weber 22-inch Kettle, featuring a two-zone cooking system. This specific sizing ensures the basket fits the grate of the 22-inch model, preventing ash from falling through the gaps and spoiling your food.

In the listing image, focus on the wire construction of the basket. You want to see a tight weave that prevents small ash particles from falling through. The photo should confirm that the basket is deep enough to hold a full load of charcoal without overflowing, ensuring the ash stays contained within the basket and makes cleaning the firebox significantly easier.
