Who sends it back

I list the coffee tamper models where the base diameter or handle grip triggers a return. Read this if your desk setup or portafilter size does not match…

This page is for the barista whose portafilter foot is not 58mm or whose wrist hurts from a heavy base. If the tamper does not sit flat on the basket rim, you are returning it.

Check the listing for the exact base diameter and handle material. The title must say if the tamper is magnetic or weighted, and the description must confirm the fit for your specific portafilter.

Keiko's heat check. Return the tamper if the base is not 58mm or the handle feels loose. The foot must sit flush on the basket rim to avoid uneven tamping.

1. Espresso Tamper 51mm, Stainless Steel Coffee Tamper with Wood Handle

1. This stainless steel tamper pairs a 51mm base with a wood handle, a combination that feels traditional but lacks the specific weight distribution some baristas prefer for consistent puck density.
2. Skip this if your portafilter basket is 58mm, as the 51mm diameter will not seat correctly, leaving you with uneven extraction and a tool that sits loosely in the basket.

2. KYONANO 51mm Espresso Coffee Tamper with 304 Stainless Steel…

1. The KYONANO model features a 304 stainless steel ripple base, a design choice intended to help with puck release, though the texture may not align with those who prefer a completely flat surface for maximum contact.
2. Avoid this if you require a standard flat base for specific machine compatibility or if the ripple pattern interferes with your preferred tamping technique, as the non-flat surface can create air pockets in the coffee bed.

1. The Kaffe tamper is a 51mm stainless steel tool designed for portafilters, marketed as a premium press tool that integrates a distributor function into its design.

5. De'Longhi DLSC080 Black Wood Espresso Coffee Tamper

1. This De'Longhi DLSC080 tamper features a black wood handle and is designed to match the aesthetic of De'Longhi espresso machines, offering a cohesive look for your kitchen setup.

6. 51mm Espresso Tamper, Solid Aluminum Alloy Coffee Tamper for 51mm…

1. This 51mm tamper is made from solid aluminum alloy, a material that is lighter than stainless steel and may offer a different feel in the hand during the tamping process.
2. Avoid this if you prefer the weight and durability of stainless steel, as aluminum may dent more easily and does not provide the same long-term structural integrity for heavy daily use.

9. Espresso Tamping Mat Coffee Tamper

1. This listing features an espresso tamping mat and coffee tamper, a combination that focuses on protecting your countertop while providing the essential tool for compressing coffee grounds.
2. Skip this if you already have a dedicated tamping mat or if you prefer a tamper with a more substantial weight, as the included mat may be thin and the tamper may lack the heft needed for consistent pucks.
